Leigh Botts is a young, sixth grade boy who loves the book Ways to Amuse a Dog by Mr. Henshaw. Throughout elementary school, Leigh becomes very interested in writing letters to Mr. Henshaw. After receiving a few letters back from Mr. Henshaw, Leigh begins to confide in Mr. Henshaw and look to him for advise. Eventually Leigh writes in his diary as if he were writing to Mr. Henshaw. He describes the struggle that he has with his parents divorce and the trouble he has with someone stealing his lunch. Will Leigh find a way to catch the lunchbag thief?
