Where Would You Go?
Summary:
In this activity, the students will be creating a postcard of a place that they have been or a place that they want to go. They will write a short paragraph about the activities that they did when they were at this location. The students will then draw a picture that illustrates what they have described in their postcard.
Rationale:
I chose to do this activity with my students because in the book Leigh gets postcards from various people. I thought that having my students make various postcards would help them to connect to the book. I also thought that this would be a good way for the students to understand the process that Leigh takes when he writes letters to Mr. Henshaw. In addition to that I thought that this would be a great way to follow the standard because the students have to come up with real or imagined experiences when making their postcards. They will also need to use clear event sequences and descriptive details when writing their activities on the back.
Common Core Standards:
Level of Bloom's Taxonomy: Synthesis. This is on the level of synthesis because the students are creating a postacrd. They will also pretend that they have gone to this place. They will be visualizing the activities that they have done as well ad writing about it.
