Are You the Same or Are You Different?
Summary:
In this activity, the students will be using sentences from the book that are provided to come up with synonyms. The students will take the sentences provided and change the underlined word to a synonym of that word so that the new sentence has the same meaning but may be a little more descriptive.
Rationale:
The reason that I chose this activity for the students was because using more descriptive words when writing is something that I feel students often struggle with. I feel that this activity will help the students to use more descriptive words when writing. This is something that the students will encounter on an regular basis and I feel that it will benefit them to know what words are synonyms. Not only will this activity help with developing descriptive words, but it will also help the students to know their synonyms and antonyms better. This standard is directly correlated with this activity.
Common Core Standards:
Level of Bloom's Taxonomy: Analysis. This activity is at the level of analysis because the students will be classifying the words as synonyms or not. The students are showing that they see the relationship between the synonym words and drawing a conclusion as to what a synonym of that word is.
