I am
Summary:
In this activity, the students will create an I am poem about themselves or about Leigh. The students will be able to refer back to the I am poem that I wrote about myself if they get stuck.
Rationale:
The reason that I chose this activity was because I thought that it would be a great place to start with poetry. This type of poem is not extremely simple, but it is not very hard either. I felt that by doing a poem like this the students would get a better understanding of who Leigh is. I thought that they would be able to identify with him more. I also felt that it would help the students to see the relationships that words have and they mean. I thought that the fact that the standard aligned with word relationships and figurative language was perfect for this activity.
Common Core Standards:
Level of Bloom's Taxonomy: Synthesis. This activity is at the level of synthesis because the students will be creating their own poem. The students will be taking parts of what they already know to originate something of their own.
